News The Neu Bulletin (14th March 2014)

Neu’s weekend new music guide recommends Fear of Men, Grapell and Easy Kill.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE WEEKEND GIG
Fear Of Men, The Spills, Whistlejacket (Saturday 15th - DIY Presents)

A free gig full of great bands presented by DIY and going on into the early hours? Why not? Brighton’s Fear of Men are on the brink of releasing debut ‘Luna’ and they’re backed by DIIV-channellers Whistlejacket and the ever-impressive The Spills.

THE BIG NEU THING
Grapell - A Silver Line [DIY Premiere]

‘A Silver Line’ is taken from Stockholm folk trio Grapell’s self-titled debut EP which was released last year via Strangers Candy, going slightly under the radar. It’s still an EP that’s worthy of excitable attention today though, with lead track ‘A Silver Line’ being one of the loveliest pieces of music you’re likely to have heard this year; gentle finger-picked guitar lines accompanied by a gorgeous vocal performance. OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Easy Kill - No Sorrow

Everything mentioned in today’s Bulletin is lovely. Sometimes ‘lovely’ is a cop-out way of calling something a bit bland, but that’s not the case for Fear Of Men’s nostalgic, intelligent rock or Grapell’s sweeping folk. Easy Kill also carry some serious subtleties, floating their way across breezy, National-channelling balladry that’s like ‘Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks’ without the wine and the sobbing. Keep an eye out for this Manchester group - there’s no limit to their powers.
