News The Neu Bulletin (15th April 2014)
Neu picks out Fear of Men, H0ST and Wild Highways for today’s new music tips.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.
THE GIG
Fear of Men - Brighton Dome Studio Theatre
Ahead of debut album ‘Loom’, Fear of Men keep it local for a hometown show at Brighton Dome’s Studio Theatre. Jessica Weiss and co.’s nostalgia-laced art rock takes dreamier, fuzzier turns in a live setting.
THE BIG NEU THING
H0ST - Heartbeats in the House
While Klaxons realign themselves for chart stardom, a new force is in town going by the name of H0ST. The London act emailed Neu out of the blue with nothing but a link to their tasty debut track ‘Heartbeats in the House’, which suitably employs a house aesthetic to a song that’s positively pumping. It’s simple stuff, basking in 90s nostalgia, but that doesn’t stop this debut from being a minor triumph.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
WILD HIGHWAYS
There’s something about Wild Highways aka Cody Dyck. His curious, sickly take on hip-hop isn’t aligned to anything in particular - there’s a hint of trip-hop working its way into ‘Brag Right’ (up above), but everything else points forwards. Cody’s a big part of a fledging Montreal scene that’s more scattered than ever before. He’s played with Mac DeMarco, Sean Nicholas Savage, and on his solo turn he does his best to sound nothing like his contemporaries.
