New music guide The Neu Bulletin (15th July 2015)

Every day, DIY packs together a bulletin full of new music tips. Today’s contains Afterbloom, Gal Pals and Morly.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

Afterbloom and Honey Moon

London, The Social

A new wave of no-frills “beans music” bands lead the charge tonight, with a show at London Social. Locals Honey Moon make psych that gets to the point instead of bathing in ‘60s nostalgia. AFTERBLOOM, meanwhile, are here to prove there’s even more to the Midlands than an initial wave from two years back. Grunge-doused anthemia is their trade, and they’re bloody good at it.

Gal Pals - Ex-Marionette

Gal Pals’ ‘Ex-Marionette’ has been going around for a good few months, but nothing enhances a song’s lifespan like giant inflatable balloons that spell out a band name. Taken from a debut LP, this ramshackle, rough-around-the-edges cut gets brought to life within the confines of an empty karaoke bar. Everyone’s invited, but this space belongs exclusively to Gal Pals.

Morly - And Sooner Than We Know It…

Theories have been coined to suggest that the most beautiful music can only be made in Iceland, where vast landscapes lend themselves to ethereal qualities. Sigur Ros showed their hand, and when Julianna Barwick recorded in the country, she emerged with her best work. Katy Morley is here to prove otherwise. Her ‘And Sooner Than We Know It…’ song is glacial, Iceland all over, but it was put together in another continent. After time spent in the Gayngs collective, Morly’s first release - ‘In Defence Of My Muse’ is due out 14th August via Cascine.
