The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

THE GIG:
Honeyblood - London, Rough Trade East

Five-star rated and pretty much faultless, word is only just beginning to spread around Honeyblood’s self-titled debut album. The Scottish duo tonight launch their debut with a free gig at Rough Trade East - but this is a record that’ll take on a life of its own. It’s too good to be ignored.

THE BIG NEU THING:
VÉRITÉ - Strange Enough

‘Strange Enough’ is as appropriate a title as they come. VÉRITÉ ticks plenty of chart-worthy pop boxes. Her voice floats over notes like she’s ten foot higher than everything else. Barely a note’s missed. She sings about romance, apathy, frustration; themes that make a big impact on a tonne of people. But this debut track is indeed strange enough to catch the attention. The production’s stirring, based in murky depths. Lyrics are playful, full of curveballs. This New Yorker was born to be strange, and she’s embracing the very fact.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Oslo Parks - Twin

West Coast funk has officially struck the UK. First Dev Hynes hitched over to New York and fell in love with strutting disco. Then the glitterball epidemic spread to Birmingham, where Ekkah sprung out of nowhere with similarly sharp, dance-tastic tracks. Now it’s hit another B-Town - Brighton. Oslo Parks’ debut track ‘Twin’ gets by on a chorus that declares “Our love is like a coma,” which is a bit morbid on face value, but look, everyone’s sipping mojitos, everybody can dance - join in. Give in to the funk fever.
