News The Neu Bulletin (16th November 2012)

Neu’s daily guide to nights out and new music. Featuring Eaux and Amateur Best.

Every day of the week, Neu gives you a choice show and a selection of new music tips, all in the name of exposing you to something new and exciting.

THE GIG
Regal Safari, Eaux - The Nest, London

If this gig doesn’t feature at least one projector and immersive light show, we’ll be damned. Regal Safari and Eaux make sonically separate but similarly engrossing electronic music, full of slight twists and gorgeous subtleties. It’s a gentle warm up for your Friday night. Or, if you’re completely knackered, a simple ease in to the end of your week, before you head back for some kip.

THE SONG
Amateur Best - Too Much

In amongst Joe Flory’s many downbeat declarations on this song, one has particular resonance: “How do I touch the ground, when I’m hopelessly shuffling?”. It seems to sum up Joe’s work as Primary 1 and all the stones he left unturned with that project. Amateur Best is a wholly more perfected avenue, with ‘Too Much’ his most complete work by a long stretch. Defined by loose sax sections and a late-night electronic pulse, it shows Joe shuffling, but this time it’s not a hopeless, helpless cause. He’s way above the ground, but we’re in tandem on this occasion, enjoying every thrill of the ride with this eccentric talent.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Lovelier Other

The ever-reliant Josh at Crack In The Road sent us this track yesterday. It’s the debut from Lovelier Other, an act choosing rather ill-fittingly to cloak themselves in mystery. The Facebook bio reads: “A Band.” There’s no sign of location or membership. But the vocals on ‘Leave This Behind’ are delightfully clear, putting a spotlight on a wonderful, easeful style of delivery. Hell, if I had this kind of singing voice, I’d want people to know it was me. Time, we’re sure, will assist with the gradual unveiling of these guy’s identities. For the time being immerse yourself in this glorious debut track.
