New music guide The Neu Bulletin (16th September 2015)
DIY’s daily dose of new music today contains Yak, Dreller and the new Sad Girls Club compilation.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
Yak
London, Barfly
Yak have fire in their bellies. They’re a dastardly trio, intent on bringing wacked-out noise to tiny house parties and giant arenas in-waiting. Tonight they headline a night at London Garage, supported by Broken Hands and Eighteen Nightmares at the Lux. If you see any new band before the 2016 talk goes into overdrive, make it Yak.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Dreller - One Night Stand
London-based musician / illustrator DRELLER likes to combine his two strengths. Backing up new song ‘One Night Stand’ - a heady piece of glitch-pop - is an animated video, taking root in fantastical cities before drifting into outer space. There’s a wild imagination to this Goodbye Records signing, but that doesn’t stop this from being an impressively well-rooted song.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Davina Shell - All The Things She Said (T.A.T.U. cover)
“A ‘Now 44’ for emos”, UK collectiveSad Girls Club have put together an unorthodox, ridiculously fun compilation called ‘Sad Girls Clubbing’. It sees UK DIY staples like Trust Fund and Pet Cemetery taking on certified #bangers from the ‘90s and beyond. A highlight is the above T.A.T.U. cover from Davina Shell, which transforms a worldwide smash hit into an introverted gem.
