THE GIG
Clean Bandit - London, XOYO

Cambridge-degree’ed four-piece Clean Bandit bring their supremely intelligent game to London’s XOYO tonight. Their quest to place classical music in the welcoming lap of the charts is becoming more formidable by the day - this also remains one of their only headline shows to date. For many it’ll be an exciting first glimpse.

THE SONG
YAWNS - Lucid Dream
DEMO by YAWNS

The artwork for YAWNS’ early demos isn’t exactly a rare find. It’s attributed as one of the defining photos of the 60s, an example of hedonism in all its smoke-and-flower-coated force. The Belgium band linking themselves to this image are psych-inclined, indebted to their preferred decade. Think Temples with more of an enlivened punch, The Byrds with bite. ‘Lucid Dream’ is a referential but nonetheless thrilling beginning.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
YOUTHBLOOD - 100 BPM

Youthblood’s (formerly known as Trophys) debut track is initially so cocksure you’re unsure of where to look. It bursts in, sinking shoegaze openings with the click of the finger, or in this case the entrance of vocalist Conor Rowlan. He lands with a Faris Badwan-like roar, as structure shift and stir to his will. The Brighton/Maidstone group make a frightful entrance.

Youthblood play London’s Old Blue Last on 23rd July.
