News The Neu Bulletin (18th April 2014)

DIY’s Good Friday guide to new music contains Nai Harvest, DP & Danish group Cancer.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG
Nai Harvest w/ Seahaven, Battle Lines - London, Birthdays

Tonight legendary emo band Seahaven make a live return to the UK, and they’re joined by the most fitting of supports in Sheffield “gross boy band” Nai Harvest, one of the country’s most exciting new bands.

THE BIG NEU THING
CANCER - Same Color As Digital Photography

Danish duo CANCER provoke with the name, then they go about winning you over with a dazzling debut track. ‘Same Color As Digital Photography’ is an initially curious, uncustomary folk track that eventually reveals a royal flush of a hand. Like fellow Danes Blaue Blume - another essential experimental pop acts - Kristian Finne Kristensen & Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild know how to mix falsetto and almost indecipherable lyrics into a pop equation. Think Antony and the Johnsons pouring his soul in a completely different way.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
DP - Jabar

20-year old DP knows how to get a trunk rattling. Sounding like a Stones Throw murderer, DP is bringing back the initial fear and excitement of Odd Future with ‘Jabar’. The first track from his upcoming ‘Designer Casket‘ project, ‘Jabar’ sets the tone, and it sets it pretty bleak. Bursting through with such a hard as nails breakthrough track, he’s showing he’s capable of a throwback that’s anything but a throwaway. [Joe Price]
