THE GIG
Face + Heel support Taken By Trees - London, Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen

I’m not sure enough’s been said about Face + Heel yet; about their ability to make one of 2013’s standout releases if they continue on their current trajectory. Sinead Macmillan and Luke Taylor’s deft-touched, intimate pop is a more harrowing warm-up to Taken By Trees’ headline set in London tonight. It’ll be nothing but spectacular.

THE SONG
Badlands - Tutu

There’s something about the meeting ground between atmospheric electronic pop and Scandinavia. Malmö-based solo project and former duo Badlands released its debut EP ‘Battle Within in April’ last year and now they’ve shared the follow-up single ‘Tutu’, which is out now via Temporary Secretary. For ‘Tutu’, Badlands - real name Catharina Jaunviksna - has moved into dazzling pop territory and it works out just beautifully. It’s one of those slow-building, mesmerising electronic pop songs that you feel compelled to keep on repeat. [Johan Alm]

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Parisian - Still In Love With

A further cut from Missouri producer Ian Jones’ ‘Daul Kim’ EP, ‘Still In Love With’ produces something close to emotionally-grounded, deeply human electronica. Piano chimes collide in the foreground, while beckoning vocals crawl somewhere beneath. Laden with echo and some choice percussion, in providing a tribute to the late South Korean model (of whom this EP is named after), ‘Still In Love With’ appears to be the moment of brief, triumphant calm in the middle of a tragic tale.

The ‘Daul Kim’ EP is out on 18th February through Push & Run
