THE GIG
Josef Salvat, William Arcane, Xander the Great, Neon Jungle - London, Hoxton Bar and Kitchen
A Neu-feast if ever there was one. Four exciting new acts compress themselves into one busied East London room for a showcase-fest. Aussie songwriter Josef Salvat (pictured) headlines, while Pictures signing William Arcane heads up the rest of the bill, joined by Weeknd-channellers Xander the Great and the promising Neon Jungle.
THE SONG
The Acid - Fame
As per I Guess I’m Floating’s recommendation, The Acid might have given their debut EP the most ridiculous name in an age ‘꓃ ᑄ ꒛ ᗌ’ (WHAT), but that hasn’t stopped their soul dripping pop from landing in the right pairs of ears. ‘Fame’ is a Rhye-worthy lusting, the phrase ‘I want your body’ interspersed with killer riffs and tap-tap percussion. In the xx-school of sentimentality, this reaches bounds previous acts haven’t come close to.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
gaze - dear father
dear father by gaze
The confessional skizzum of Philadelphia-based gaze sounds like the bellowing calls of Majical Cloudz born and raised on a fairground. Think of every discarded LA arcade, every sobbing punter who lost all their winnings in one disastrous night at the slots. Gambling’s bad, kids. Not that the subject has anything to do with ‘dear father’, which seems to deal with something much closer to the bone. Still - it’s tragedy painted in light, and that’s a fine reason to get into gaze.
