THE GIG
Primitive Parts - London, Mascara Bar
Sexbeat signings Primitive Parts consists of Kevin Hendrick, Robin Christian (Male Bonding) and Lindsay Corstorphine of Sauna Youth. Something of a supergroup, then. And they evidently know what they’re doing with ‘Open Heads’, the first side of a debut 7” out 10th February. They launch the release tonight with a show at Stoke Newington’s Mascara Bar.
THE BIG NEU THING
Lovepark - Jester
Leeds’ Grammatics are a sorely missed group for anyone lucky enough to have fallen head over heels in love several years back. Now far departed, their assumed successor arrives with ‘Jester’. Whereas Grammatics might’ve been too angular, almost alienating for a fair few, Lovepark are a different prospect. Slashing guitars with math rock intent, every note bends and swerves - as if to distract - reaching a gorgeous endpoint in its wooing chorus. Clever stuff - not too clever, though.
