THE GIG
Bipolar Sunshine, Blessa - Manchester, The Castle Hotel
Smooth-toned Adio Marchant is joined onstage by a complete polar opposite, musically. Saying that, both Bipolar Sunshine (pictured, top) and Blessa make a good match as almost every attendee at The Castle Hotel will have heard plenty of word-of-mouth hype about both acts respectively. Blessa make the journey in from Sheffield, their crystallised guitar gems glowing more by the day. Believe the hype and get fully excited about this one.
THE SONG
Mind Not The Timid - Flood
Flood by Mind Not The Timid
‘Go big or go home’ reads the mission statement on Mind Not The Timid’s Facebook page. Direct your eyes to the right and you’ll see the list of members involved in the project. And there’s a lot of them. We’re talking Arcade Fire-levels of multi-instrumentated contributions. If these guys ever go on tour I don’t wanna think about the expenses tab. But it might be an incoming reality for the Nashville group, as debut track ‘Flood’ - taken from an album, ‘Beacons’ - is a beautifully building, climatic giant of a song. They do indeed go big. As big as it gets.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Ménage à Trois - Islands In The Stream
If you’re going to cover the Bee Gees, you’ve got to do it in style, right? Ménage à Trois sent us their version of ‘Islands in the Stream’ last week and ever since we’ve been trying to uncover the realities of these smooth-as-hell romantic-types. The video above is about as tongue-in-cheek as it gets, but its frizzy haired frontman is something of an Ariel Pink in waiting, you’ll agree.
Taken from a 100 edition debut cassette.
