New music guide The Neu Bulletin (25th September 2015)

DIY’s weekend dose of new music, featuring Made Violent, PROM and Lao Ra.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

Made Violent (w/ Wolf Alice & Drenge)

London, Brixton Academy (Saturday 26th September)

It’s the gig of the year on Saturday, in case nobody mentioned it. Wolf Alice headlining a sold out Brixton Academy. Thrillseekers Drenge in support. A stunning double-bill. And it’s backed by Made Violent, New Yorkers with a similarly thrashy cause. Last night saw them playing their first London headline show, but Brixton represents a step up. Their smoke-stained, early Kings of Leon-nodding rock ’n roll is made for big occasions.

Lao Ra - Jesus Made Me Bad

Columbia-raised newcomer Lao Ra has penned an anthem of rebellion with ‘Jesus Made Me Bad’. A steel-pan backed banger in its purest form, it’s a song her mum’s a bit concerned about (because it’s having a dig at the country’s religious traditions), but it’s also likely to shoot straight past controversy and into the charts.

PROM - Touch Me

Girl Band are kings of noise, but they’ve picked the right band to join them on an upcoming UK tour. PROM’s latest ‘Touch Me’ single is their finest balancing act to date. Angela Won-Yin Mak threatens to explode, guitar parts ranging from Tarantino-esque dusky sleaze to eye-gouging force. Like Girl Band, PROM know how to exert control in the game of making a big fucking racket.
