THE SONG
Max Jury - Crooked Time
Des Moines songwriter Max Jury’s specifics are simple. Eerie production surround simple songwriting. Everything is hushed, verging on a whisper. It’s already landed the guy a support slot with Lana Del Rey in the States, with ‘Crooked Time’ confirming the dig to be anything but a coup. All the arrangements on this track are perfected to the finest degree, but together they resemble a welcome breeze, a gentle shock to the system.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Madeline Mondrala - Bad Kid
Madeline Mondrala ‘never was a bad kid’ and ‘never ran with the wrong crew’, apparently. Which brings us to the assumption that rather than gracing the school playground with bullied chants, she spent her time growing up locked indoors perfecting the musicianship that’s actualised into this excitable ‘Bad Kid’ track. The track itself came out in January, but this Matt Speno-directed video is a thing of wonder.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
