News The Neu Bulletin (27th February 2014)
Neu’s new music guide pits together Big Ups, Boy In A Movie and Salon.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.
THE GIG
Big Ups, Happyness - London, The Old Blue Last
Making their first visit to these shores since the release of their ‘Eighteen Hours of Static’ debut, Big Ups are likely to mark The Old Blue Last’s sweatiest show of the year so far. Especially since they’re arriving with 90s referees Happyness in tow
THE BIG NEU THING
Boy In A Movie - Change You
If new London producer Boy In A Movie lived up to his name and actually did take a kid’s role in a film, he’d likely be a mixture of innocent Casper and Robin Williams before he gets creepy in ‘Jack’. There’s a sense of childsplay that spins around in ‘Change You’, a debut track that builds on an initial remix for ASTR released last month. Like a Gameboy Colour coming to life, squealing bleeps segue together and help make sense of everything. When the vocals come in, it’s on a whole other level.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Salon - Salon EP
EP by Salon
Portland group Salon don’t waste any time on niceties for their self-titled debut EP. It’s straight in with the structure-shifting magnetism, eager to please. The trio’s first release is limited to 100 cassettes, although it’s easier to imagine this extreme-favouring take on pop benefiting from glossy vinyl and fancy speakers.
