New music guide The Neu Bulletin (27th November 2014)
DIY’s new music tips, featuring Nao and Dublin band Silverbacks.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG: Nao supports Little Dragon — London, Brixton Academy
With a vocal to floor every ordinary fellow, London newcomer Nao’s stepped onto the scene via big-name collaborations. She’s worked with Abhi//dijon, William Arcana and A.K. Paul, this Little Dragon tour being the next step. Just the several thousand crowd at Brixton Academy to conquer, then.
THE BIG NEU THING:Silverbacks
With the same sarcy, stone and starving balled-up frustration as Brooklynites Parquet Courts, Dublin’s Silverbacks are an exciting new prospect. As picked out by DDNM, their frontman has a real Andrew Savage quality to his biting, low-toned remarks, although there are also hints of early Modest Mouse (wriggling, muted guitar liens) in their latest track ‘Fad 1995’.
Look out for a new album, ‘Hot Bath’, later this year.
