New music guide The Neu Bulletin (28th May 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Alex Burey, Rationale and Kins.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Alex Burey

London, London Fields Brewery

His stately, serene recordings aren’t just pretty lullabies - Alex Burey is also fast-becoming a go-to producer. He puts together all the slight nuances on his EPs, and the teenager’s biggest challenge yet has been fleshing these out in a live environment. His second London headline show takes place tonight at the intimate confines of the city’s London Fields Brewery.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Rationale - Re.Up

Rationale’s second track to date is just about cheesy enough to be a shoe-in for Eurovision 2016. This London-based project does everything it can to stick to a moody aesthetic and box-ticking sense of cool, but it can’t hide the truth - this is a shamelessly slick, emotional pop monster, ready to be embraced by anyone with a broken heart.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Kins - Young

A band who’ve penned enough under-the-radar triumphs to warrant themselves criminally unsung, Kins keep the hitrate going with their latest track ‘Young’. A mix of stirring falsetto and crunching, effect-drenched guitar lines, it’s a sway between harsh and soft that goes beyond their debut album from last year.
