THE GIG
Teleman - Sticky Mikes Frog Bar, Brighton
The exciting new Teleman project - formed of members from Pete and the Pirates, RIP - is giving hope to all the P&TP fans who thought a little chunk of happiness had left them forever upon seeing the band calling it quits. Brighton welcomes the guys in following on from their recent ‘Cristina’ single.
THE SONG
Turtle - The Opposite Of Low
If you spend half your time basking in Luke Abbott’s ‘Holkham Drones’ or the more excitable, industrial sound of Factory Floor and Blondes, Glasgow producer Jon Cooper is your new musical obsession in waiting. As Turtle, he’s displayed a wide-ranging debut EP, the highlight of which comes in ‘The Opposite Of Low’, which, you might have guessed, means ‘high’. The word ‘high’ is jumbled up in a fleeting flurry of harsh, jerky electronics. It’s tense and it’s excitable and for the most part, completely brilliant.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Deathbeams - Bromance
Did you hitch yourself up to our final ‘Hello 2013’ show at The Old Blue Last last night? Did you happen to stumble onto a big thick wall of fuzz and face-melting riffs? That’d be Deathbeams. Here’s a ‘rough demo’ of their beautifully titled ‘Bromance’ track. It’s harsh and scuzzy but beneath all the rough-edged rabidness is a proper old fashioned song.
