New music guide The Neu Bulletin (4th March 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Haelos, Jimmy Whispers and Oxy Punk.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Haelos - Dust

With one head-turning track to their name, Haelos are entering 2015 with a record deal and one of the most hotly-anticipated London debuts in months. Tonight the Bow trio play a sold out Oslo, showcasing 2014’s ‘Dust’ track while shining a light on the method behind their deft, softly-softly pop. Catch them before they’re the talk of all this year’s showcase fests.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Jimmy Whispers - Keeping Me High

Chicago’s Jimmy Whispers is a convincing character before any of his songs even get going. His delivery isn’t a big distance away from The Wave Pictures’ Dave Tattersall, brutally upfront with every direct line. He’s up there with Sean Nicholas Savage (or even Ariel Pink) in bringing performance to pop. The opposite of mystery, you’ll find out a whole lot more about him with his ‘Summer In Pain’ full-length, out 24th March with Field Mates Records.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Oxy Punk - Rosy

Just yesterday, we bigged up two tracks from fresh-faced Californians Oxy Punk. Within 24 hours, they’ve uploaded another glimpse of their anthem-leaning, gleaming pop. ‘Rosy’ is arena-ready to the extreme, and it’ll be no time before this (and probably everything else unveiled up to now) is swiftly deleted from Soundcloud as they plot their plan for world domination. Catch it while it’s still here.
