THE GIG
Fear of Men support No Joy - Manchester, Night & Day

They’ve just finished their album, apparently, so Brighton’s Fear Of Men will be putting perfectionism to the test on a tour with No Joy. This stopover in Manchester will collide all-rejoicing 90s nostalgia with some trusty new songs, presumably.

THE SONG
Kiss 108 - HYPERFANTASY XL

Formerly known as Dom, this Massachusetts super-producer now going by Kiss 108 likes to perform the impossible. ‘HYPERFANTASY XL’ is a terrifying first glimpse - fittingly, it was released on Halloween. Fusing S Club 7 (yep) with a Shazam session’s worth of other ridiculous references, this is like Girl Talk going against the trends. Self-aware of its ‘maximalist’ approach it might be, but by throwing everything into a pit of madness, Kiss 108 is witnessing some brilliant results.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Tei Shi - Nevermind The End

Tei Shi’s name has been sent skywards since the release of debut track ‘M&Ms’, which pitched strung out James Blake beats against some candy-coated pensive vocals. Departing from crystal clear glow of the debut, ‘Nevermind The End’ is an unphased follow-up. It’s a formidable pop song covered in layer upon layer of fog. It’s difficult to see through, at first, but it soon reveals itself to be a smart second work. In turn, Tei Shi reveals herself to be someone 100% unconcerned with the end point. Hype can wait: A bonafide experimentalist, expect to see her shifting shapes way into the future.
