THE GIG
Ryan Hemsworth supports Toro Y Moi - Brighton, Concorde

You’ll be hard pushed to find two better releases than Ryan Hemsworth’s ‘Still Awake’ EP and Toro Y Moi’s recent ‘Anything in Return’ record. Two heartthrob producers combine tonight along the Coast.

THE SONG
The Night VI - Thinking Of You

London Grammar are deemed to be the smoothest pop sensation to emerge in yonks, but that doesn’t mean they’ve wrapped up said territory entirely. ‘Thinking Of You’ - the first track off new Parlophone signing The Night VI’s debut EP - is all gorgeous melodrama wrapped up in soothing melody. Glossy and clear, the work of perfectionists no doubt, but it’s more than the work of ultra-professionals. Something special is afoot.

The ‘Thinking Of You’ EP is out 12th August.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Roses - Roses EP
ROSES EP by Roses

Sounding a bit like a teenage Brian Wilson’s experimental side project, Brooklyn’s Roses make lovelorn, downtempo pop that’s armed with a distinctive, Christopher Owens-esque croon. Self-proclaiming themselves as “three young handsome dudes”, ‘Get It Right’ is a great example of their lovesick sensibilities that riddle their debut EP. Opening with some deep, dark synths and a few claps of a drum machine, it expands into itself by revealing a shimmering guitar line as frontman Andrew Grant Tobiassen gently lulls “why do I always want another?”. Grab the self-titled EP from Bandcamp, but only if you’re prepared to have a bit of a sulk whilst you’re at it. [Tom Walters]
