THE GIG
Us Baby Bear Bones, Hologram - London, Birthdays

A DIY Presents show that’s begging for new music-obsessives to flock in their hundreds, Brighton trio Us Baby Bear Bones top tonight’s bill. They’re promising lots of fancy surprises too, which is a bonus. Plus there’s Hologram supporting. That’s three reasons to come along, four if you include the fact that it’s FREE. No excuses.

THE SONG
bo en - friend

A funfair of a track, bo en’s latest magic trick involves spinning motions, rollercoaster-ready turns and a haunted house of mind-bending jolts to the system. A stupid amount goes into ‘friend’, which spans under three minutes but carries all the blessed bursts of energy that your average fire-starting punk record possesses. Some might ask bo en to calm the hell down, but the guy’s onto something, fizzing with wild-eyed ambition.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Tallows - 1414

‘1414’ is tinged with regret. But why? ‘This one’s gonna cost me / this one’s gonna come back and haunt me’ runs Tallows’ conscience. They’ve nothing to be afraid of though. ‘1414’ isn’t risk-taking stuff that makes the draw drop, but it sure ain’t safe fare either. Immediate snap and cracks line the surface, while half-shy, Youth Lagoon-style declarations wither into the wilderness. It’s a compression of clever tricks, ‘1414’, each one more attention-grabbing than the last. Nothing to regret, here. It’s a big step forward.
