THE GIG
Local Natives, FAMY - Hoxton Bar and Kitchen
At the beginning of 2012, FAMY looked set to treat the year with a follow-up to their 2011 EP. Instead they’ve bided their time, seemingly working towards making 2013 their port of call. Tonight’s gig, supporting another band with a big year ahead of them - albeit an established name - will prove as a vital glimpse into what the London band have in store for us.
THE SONG
Two Jackals - Arrows
‘Arrows’ is nine months old, rough around the edges, un-mastered and riddled with the odd flaw here and there. But it’s the flaws in this early Two Jackals track that gives the song the lease of life it needs. The Brighton four-piece collide sharp, crystallising guitar parts with harsh, downtrodden vocals, at their very greatest depth. It reaches a crescendo to rival all others, by which point any niggles over production quality are swept to one side. It’s pure, unrelenting passion, unfocused and all the better for it.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Gacha - Burning
Gacha’s first effort in four months is a beautifully applied piece of jazz-spliced electronica. It’s nights up until 4am, staring at a screen for god knows what reason. It’s long, dazed journeys from one city to another. It’s a startling work, incapable of leaving you nonplussed.
