New music guide The Neu Bulletin (6th July 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Leeds’ Glad Hand and Poland’s RYSY.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

Glad Hand

Hailing from Leeds, Glad Hand specialise in the unorthodox. When all lined up, their jazz-nodding debut ‘Been One Thing’ amounts to a deftly-applied pop track, but it’s made out of strange parts. Heady falsetto vocals, disjointed instrumentation - the likes of which fellow Leeds band Adult Jazz have made their name on - steal the show. Few bands land with something as daring as this with their opening gambit.

RYSY - Ego ft. Justyna Święs

During a brief jet-setting trip to Poland for Open’er Festival, Neu was exposed to a handful of exciting local acts, sharing a bill with heavyweights Drake and Disclosure. Best of these is RYSY, an electronic duo who bring in a broad range of guest vocalists for their heady takes. Justyna Święs is best known for being in The Dumplings, one of the country’s most well-loved bands. On ‘Ego’, she flicks a switch between murky instruments and soaring pop notes.
