Every day of the week, Neu gives you a choice show and a selection of new music tips, all in the name of exposing you to something new and exciting.

THE GIG
Young Magic, Beaty Heart, Ides - Madame Jojos, London

A fascinating blend of sounds here: Young Magic bring forth the evocative pop, Beaty Heart the eccentric art punk and Ides the deep-lying singer-songwriter splendour. Place these three together on a playlist and you’d get strange people gatecrashing your party, but live it’s a chance to see three emerging acts in the live spectacle.

THE SONG
/please/ - brave

Take everything you know about ambient, hazy pop and throw it to one side for a second: Bristol’s Ellen Davies tears the rulebook in two with her progressive, slow-burning tracks, all wonderfully documented on her Soundcloud page. Think Beach House with more dynamism, Grouper with more freneticism. It’s a beautiful morphing of styles; a daring attempt at trying something new. It succeeds, too. ‘brave’ is her finest effort to date, we’d argue.

It’s easy to turn a blind eye to dream-pop to these days. It’s all been done, you might think. One hazy fuzzy work of escapism is quite enough, thank you very much. But there’s such an immediacy to this new BEACHMEN track that you’d be forgiven for falling into the familiar trap of imagining yourself on a sunbed, drinkin’ horchaaata, and forgetting about life’s challenges, like heating bills and the morning bus not turning up. Such source of anxiety is but a distant memory when you listen to the track up above.
