New music guide The Neu Bulletin (7th November 2014)
DIY’s daily new music guide, featuring D. D. Dumbo, The Amazing and Jack Garratt.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
D. D. Dumbo - London, St Pancras Old Church (Sunday 9th November)
For the past couple of weeks, loop pedal-addict D. D. Dumbo has been stealing hearts as the support act on Jungle’s biggest UK tour to date. The 4AD signing returns to headline digs on Sunday night for a special, intimate church show.
THE BIG NEU THING:
The Amazing - Picture You (Premiere)
The Amazing live up to their name in every sense. They don’t make a big song and dance about it, though. Classically inspired, their routine is one of lightly-applied, gradually progressing songwriting, schooled in the same subtle drama of The War on Drugs. ‘Picture You’ is lifted from a debut album of the same name, out 16th February 2015 on Partisan Records. Eased in, this is a warm, gorgeous introduction from the Swedish quintet.
Pre-order ‘Picture You’ here.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Jack Garratt - Water (Jesse & The Wolf Remix) (Premiere)
When he’s not bopping his beards above gadgets or soulfully cooing into oblivion, Jack Garratt’s standing out as one of 2014’s most remixable new artists. His songs link together richly-coined fragments, all of which can be extracted, used for their own purpose. On this amped-up, gorgeous, unashamedly huge edit from Jesse & The Wolf, Garratt sounds more like a chartworthy star than ever. ‘Water’’s new remix appears alongside edits from Son Lux, IYES and Carassius Gold.
Jack Garratt plays the following dates:
