New music guide The Neu Bulletin (8th August 2014)
Today’s batch of new music tips picks out Lightboxes and Trak Joy.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Trak Joy - Skin
The debut track from NYC duo Trak Joy initially sounds like a dozen nights out blended into one. There’s a school of shuffling feet tripping over each other, eager to get onto the floor. When ‘Skin’ reaches boiling point, it begins to merge disparate parts into some kind of formation. Shane Dinet’s production is a fidgety beast, but Kile Atwater’s vocals offer some kind of sweet continuity, the running thread in a sea of ideas.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Lightboxes - Turn to Stone
Lightboxes might be the most seemingly unsung triumph to emerge out of South East London for some time. While thousands flock to the area for rising rent and more rooftop bars than you can shake an overpriced cocktail at, these two have stayed resolute as something undiscovered. Their latest, ‘Turn to Stone’, mixes atmospheric production with double bass and vocals that give into the flow of it all. Meticulous in detail but nonetheless flooring given an immediate listen, it’s their best song to date.
