The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
Yak and Black Honey (supporting Superfood)
London, Heaven
Tonight isn’t just a glitzy, no-compromise celebration of all things Superfood. For their biggest show to date, they’re also inviting a bright new cast of future heroes, from Black Honey’s twisted, scream-centric pop to Yak’s hypnotic rock ’n roll. Two of the best new bands around join a stellar bill.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Day Wave - Drag
Day Wave treads the same path as Beach Fossils and DIIV - constructing sweeping songs out of one-string riffs and basic percussion - but already at this early stage, it’s looking like being the most pop-oriented of them all. New song ‘Drag’ bring a smile out of end-of-days misery, melancholy lining the seams of this incessantly easy-on-the-ear first step.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Lung Dart - B. OK
New to Happy Valley (home of Cloud Castle Lake), London duo Lung Dart make perfect parts out of loose ends. Their ‘B. OK’ debut is drenched in arty intention, but it’s also a gorgeous pop song. Forget the layered-up wave imagery, the ultra-cool aura - Lung Dart aren’t fooling anyone: Their ultimate aim is to write massive, emotional ballads. This is quite the start.
