News The White Album: ‘We’re Just Hanging On To The Ride’

We’ve a premiere of the new snow and sentiment-filled video for ‘Seasons End’.

In the video for ‘Seasons End’ - premiering right here on DIY - Copenhagen’s The White Album embody all the elements that come together to make them such favourites over here at Neu. Beautifully shot and with cutting sentiment, the clip shows a lone figure treading a previous trail. What’s now a ghost-town contains a series of memories, all of which point towards a pretty tragic, heart-wrenching ending. Watch it for yourselves. Some familiar snowy scenery sets the tone, while a highlight from the recent ‘Conquistador’ mini-album gets caught up in a new perspective. We spoke to Frederik Vedersø from the band about the video itself, plus what the future holds for the group post-‘Conquistador’.

Stream the new video, ‘Seasons End’, and read our interview below. As premiered on DIY.

You’ve done a lot of your writing and recording in countryside cabins. Does isolation breed creativity or do you go there for other reasons?
We could write anywhere we wanted to, but the isolation is definitely a good thing creatively. We don’t really have to think about anything else other than making music and the heightened focus is worth the time spent away from work, friends and family.

Do you have attachments with certain cities or locations when it comes to writing?
We’ve been in one certain cabin most of the times we’ve been away. The landscape is so beautiful here, especially in winter and its right by the water too.

How’s the response been to ‘Conquistador’? Will your debut album show a departure in sound, so to speak?
The response has been really good. We got a lot of attention from blogs and labels. We’re still in the process of writing and recording for our upcoming full length and though we’re not finished yet, we’re expecting some new musical seasonings in the mix.

What’s the concept behind the ‘Seasons End’ video and how involved were you guys in the making of it? You make a nice couple of cameos!
Well, Claus from the band is a film photographer and produces all the videos we make, so obviously he was 100 percent involved in making it. He did it along with two fellow film makers and friends Jakob Nimb Jensen and Thomas Lund. The three of them came up with the idea of shooting a video at a closed or deserted amusement park and the story grew from that. A lot of things had to come together in order to make the project possible and the guys really put a lot of effort in it and that really shows in the result. Besides from that, the three of us really fit in the video… with the beards and general scruffy looks we kinda looks like carnies anyway!

Is this video for ‘Seasons End’ a means of wrapping up the ‘Conquistador’ record - are you now moving on to finalising and releasing the debut full-length?
It’s our last video for any of the songs on ‘Conquistador’. We’re focusing on our new material now. Both musically and visually.

How have things changed for you guys in the last year, from producing ‘Conquistador’ to playing some big shows to making this full-length?
We’re just hanging on to the ride. We don’t feel that anything has changed so much. We’re still the same 3 big bearded music making boys as we were, when we wrote ‘Conquistador’.

Is there a particular highlight from your time in the band so far?
Our debut UK gig at The Bowery in Sheffield in December 2011 were memorable, as was our last London gig at The Lexington back in September, but another kind of highlight is the times driving home to Copenhagen from the cabin listening to the new tracks with the volume knob all the way to the right in the car. It’s a breathtaking feeling for us.
