Off air This is a Lowe: A look back at Zane Lowe’s best moments
Before the station’s new music champion takes a bite of the Apple, we look back at some of his Radio 1 highlights.
After twelve years at the helm of BBC Radio 1’s flagship evening show, Zane Lowe has announced that he’s moving on to a new curation-based position at Apple, and tonight is his final show before he passes the baton to Annie Mac. Who knows what direction the slot will take under her ownership, but one thing’s for sure; cooking dinner with the kitchen radio blaring will never be the same again.
It’s tempting to moan and jump on the negativity bandwagon when it comes to every aspect in music. Not our Zane. Larger-than-life, he has built an entire career on generating genuine excitement and positivity around everything he plays. He’s the kind of emotive DJ who gasps at the end of live sessions, and freely shouts “woah!” live on air, and his enthusiasm sometimes seems to burst out of the speakers. A music fan first and foremost - just like everybody listening in - when it comes to characters who can instinctively connect, there are few who can rival Zane.
Tonight marks his final hurrah. As he moves on to pastures new, here’s a look back over the DJ’s best moments, and a little farewell love-in from us. Goodbye, sweet prince.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
