Neu This Week In New Music (10th November 2012)

Neu editor Jamie Milton details the past seven day’s new music happenings.

As each new week arrives I start by thinking that very little’s going to happen new music-wise, that nobody’s going to share any videos, that bands are done with exposing any new tracks before the year ends. Maybe it’s a short-term memory, maybe it’s always this good around this time of year, but there seems to be an astonishing amount of wonderful new things emerging out of nowhere. Here’s DIY’s pick of the finest:

TRACK OF THE WEEK
NONONO - ‘Like The Wind’

No detailed description can do the spiritual call to arms that graces this song’s chorus full justice. No-one else can fully describe it to you. It’s like being exposed to a new city, culture, way of life. No research or thick wad of pages is going to sufficiently prepare you for the experience. You just have to dive in head-first and try it for yourself. NONONO vocalist Stina Wäppling pretty much does the impossible, here. Before you hear this…sound, you’re not even aware that vocals can produce such a monumental noise. Trust me. Listen and be exposed to something altogether unique. It’s the sound of Scandi-pop artfully balancing experimentalism and instantaneous brilliance.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Hello Ocho - ‘Party on a Raincloud’ (NSFW) (as premiered on DIY)

Where have this band been hiding all this time? Hello Ocho have seemingly honed their craft with the assistance of some nude friends, hanging out in caves (because rent’s cheap there, you can assume), acting like dippy hippies getting kicks from spiritual togetherness and sweet fly melodies. As an introduction to the band, it gives you a thorough, grand idea of where these guys are going. Chances are they’ll escape from their cosy looking cave sometime soon.

DISCOVERY OF THE WEEK
Fox Gloves

The more I listen to Fox Gloves’ debut track the more I think it’s the first step towards something huge. They fit the mould, that’s for sure: Bombay Bicycle Club fans will hear certain similarities between this here vocalist and one Jack Steadman. And the surrounding frenetic collision of guitars and percussion all makes for something deliciously frenzied and thrill-heavy. If ‘Horns’ sets a precedent, it’s the start of something special.
