Tour Diary: Canterbury (Part Four)

Features Tour Diary: Canterbury (Part Four)

When we heard the really rather great Canterbury were heading out on the road with The Blackout, DIY wanted in on the action. The band will be sending us snaps and reports from the road. This is part four, as penned by Luke Prebble (vocals/bass)…

Hull isn’t necessarily known as the most picturesque place in the country, (its also the only town we have ever seen with cream coloured telephone boxes) but one thing that can be said about it, is how polite its show goers are. When handing out some flyers to the queue before the doors were opened, I experienced an onslaught of “thank you” ‘s and held eye contact. It certainly made a change from the normal, confused look and half shrug I’m used to, so thank you for that Hull!

When we first arrived at the ‘Asylum ‘ it was impossible not to notice a pedal powered go cart, parked, just calling out to be driven round an obvious and challenging course throughout the venue. So we listened to its calls and did exactly that. It was amazing fun.

The stage was/is the smallest one we had/have to contend with on this tour, but regardless of how much room our feet had, the crowds energy made up for it ten fold. We had a really, really great show, with a surprising number of mouths singing our words back to us.

After the show we all met loads of very nice people, including a girl who had seen us at one of our first headline shows, and a guy who had been following us basically since MySpace was invented! It’s amazing that these people are still coming back again and again, and we love them for it.

Scott was especially impressed with a pizza, which he got from ‘City Pizza’ and would recommend it to anyone visiting Hull, however, James and I were slightly disappointed by the consistency of the garlic sauce on our doner kebabs. Shame.
