Tour Diary: Canterbury (Part Nine)

Features Tour Diary: Canterbury (Part Nine)

When we heard the really rather great Canterbury were heading out on the road with The Blackout, DIY wanted in on the action. The band have been sending us snaps and reports from the road. This is part nine - the final entry - as penned by Luke Prebble (vocals/bass). We’ll follow it up with an interview a little later in the week, so be sure to check back.

The last night of the tour was of course in London, in the rather stunning Camden Roundhouse. Again, a modernised venue etched in history, and on this night, almost full to capacity. There is something about playing a show in the capital city, which raises the excitement levels, and the nerves. As the evening marched on, all 4 of us began to feel more nerves than we had during the whole tour.

We have played many many shows in London in the past, including our best ever show to date at the Underworld on our headline tour last year, but this show was incredible for us. Almost definitely the best show on the tour, and quite possibly the best support show we have ever been part of. The crowd were so responsive to everything, and they were also completely filling the room. The view from the stage really was something else. Such a huge crowd filling such a picturesque venue really was enough to take our breath away.

Another city full of familiar faces combined with it being the last night of the UK leg of the tour meant that party vibes were in the air, and the vibes turned into a reality. We had orchestrated an end of tour ‘prank’ for the Blackout, and whilst they were on stage during there penultimate song, the rest of the bands and crew flooded the stage all wearing guitars and began rocking out with the band. It was something we had done once before when on tour with Hundred Reasons, but this was on a much grander scale, and took the band by absolute surprise.

So the night came to a close and the inevitable ‘goodbyes’ and ‘thank yous’ ensued. It really was an amazingly fun tour for us, full of awesome people and a selection of brilliant shows. The better the tour, the harder the blues hit, we are just all very excited to get back on the road, and hold a strong envy towards We are the Ocean and The Blackout for being able to continue the fun out in Europe. We wish them the best of luck.
