News Tour Diary: The Computers (Part One)

The Computers are currently on tour with Leeds’ Pulled Apart By Horses. The band’s vocalist and guitarist Screaming Al has been keeping a detailed account of the trip for DIY, complete with photos, of course.

Day 1 - Glasgow King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut

So today’s our first day on tour with Pulled Apart By Horses. It kicks off in Glasgow venue King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut (that’s where Oasis got signed!).

First we had to go pick up a new straight mic stand for me as I think I left my last one in the middle of Germany somewhere - more about that mic stand later. Got to Tut’s where we met up with the PABH guys. The show was fucking great, sold out and a bunch of fun. I got up on top of the PA - bad idea. It was so dirty up there, it was like they thought no one was ever going to be getting up there. Weird.

After the show, us and PABH went to Nice n Sleazy’s just down the road. White Russians, £2.50! Cool. The rest is a bit of a blur.

Day 2 - Aberdeen Tunnels

We’ve have never played Aberdeen before, it’s a great looking place. Everything is made of granite. Starbucks closes at 6pm there though. What?

The show itself was another sell out! Great vibe. I got to use my lovely brand new mic stand for the first time, as last night in Glasgow they already had one set up. Third song in, snapped new mic stand in half! I guess some mic stands are just too good for this world. R.I.P my V.I.P.

I could have just got a new stand and carried on but instead I gaffer taped a guy’s hand to the remaining bit of stand and made him follow me around for the rest of the show. He tried to get away a few times but I just gaffered him a bit more.

Oh yeah, it was Valentine’s Day. Mic Stand Guy is now my boyfriend. LOVE.

Day 3 - Newcastle Digital

Time to get a new mic stand. I forgot how cool Newcastle is so having a quick look around town was good. The venue was called Digital, we were playing on the top floor and the stage was tiny! We could barely fit on it and the show was sold out again so it was packed. I think I fell over about four times, smacked my head on the roof a bunch of times and bashed my guitar out of tune more times than I can recall.

In a mad daze, I dragged about thirty people outside into the smoking area where I played the last song. It sounded insane out there, all I could hear was myself screaming. I saw a lot of people filming…I hope that footage stays buried!

Oh, and today was Sonny’s birthday. Merry Christmas!
