TOY

Features TOY

London five-piece with a willingness to experiment and push boundaries.

If you’re a London-based act with support slots for The Horrors and an appearance at last year’s Field Day festival already to your name, you can be assured that you’re taking to the right steps. TOY are a five-piece with these credentials, plus a hugely promising debut single, to their name.

A-side of said debut release, ‘Left Myself Behind’, blasts out (quite topical) phrases about ships capsizing, against a backdrop that’s half ‘Primary Colours’, half anthemic guitar pop. Demanding your attention for over seven and a half minutes is quite the task, but it pulls it off.

If we’re to draw parallels to The Horrors - and believe me, a great deal of people will - there’s similarities in vocal style; the bursting walls of sound; the willingness to experiment and push boundaries. But even with these poignant similarities, there’s plenty of room for a band like TOY.

See TOY play out a residency at London’s Shacklewell Arms. They play the venue on 25th January, 1st February & 10th February.
