Emerging London hopeful with one of the most peculiar, versatile singing voices you’ll ever encounter.

It’s difficult to get your head around Trudie Dawn Smith’s singing voice. Peculiar, versatile; it’s both similar to countless artists and unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. She morphs from a Victoria Legrand of Beach House style - hushed but soulful - into something more befitting the minimal, bass-heavy sounds that begin to surround her on debut track ‘Mother’s Word’. There’s a London twang at the centre of it all. Perhaps that’s what makes it so unique.
Things get even more complicated when Trudie begins to pitch-shift her voice into a pit of oblivion, dark and Karin Dreijer like in delivery; it’s as if she’s showing off a coat of feathers collected from across the globe. If you split the track into 15 separate sections, not once will she sound the same.
Trudie plays Dalston’s Victoria tomorrow night, Friday 6th April.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
