You may have had your fill of fresh takes on the R&B of old but before you give up on it and move back to lo-fi rock as your new favourite thing, give Wolf Alice a chance.
The solo project of Ellie Roswell, enlisting the help of friends for live shows, Wolf Alice’s music flows in the same vein as the cleanly cut and pasted production of The xx and the earnestness of the finest modern crooners seeing in the current re-invigoration of the rhythm and the blues.
‘Wednesday’ is her signature track at the moment, throwing the beats of the night against her diary-entry like lyrics. She has already set about conquering the festivals with said track, having recently played Hop Farm Festival. Let’s hope she has started as she means to go on.
Wolf Alice’s debut three track EP that she has self-released is available to download from her Bandcamp page.
