Interview YAK look ahead to Live At Leeds: “We’ll just do what feels right on the night.”
Oli Burslem discusses his plans for the band’s show at the one-dayer this weekend.
Yak formed in 2014 and two years later released their debut album ‘Alas Salvation’, a loud, cacophonous statement that, complete with their reputation for high-energy live shows, marked them as one of the most exciting new rock bands of recent years.
Now it looks like the band are in the works of making a new album and might be debuting some new music at Live at Leeds this weekend. We caught up with frontman Oli Burslem to find out more…
You’re playing Live At Leeds festival this May, is it one you’ve been to before?
I’m not sure to be honest, but we’ve played Leeds a fair few times. Brudenell Social Club is one of our favourite venues.
Are there any bands playing the fest that you’re definitely going to see?
I haven’t checked out the lineup yet but I’m open for surprises.
Could we be in with a chance of hearing any new material at the show?
Yes hopefully…. We still don’t have a set list so we’ll just do what feels right on the night.
Any big highlights of last year’s festival season?
Hanging out with Vinny our bassist at Glastonbury.
If you could give punters one bit of advice for when it comes to festivals, what would it be and why?
Go it alone and don’t go prepared… Rely on other people’s prep.
What one item do you take with you when you’re on the festival trail to make life more luxurious?
Baby wipes.
Yak play Live At Leeds this Saturday (5th May). Tickets are on sale now.
