Interview Young Guns Ready Themselves For #STANDFORSOMETHING Show

Bristol awaits the second date of DIY & Dr. Martens’ tour.

After taking over Manchester with Sonic Boom Six, the next stop on DIY and Dr. Martens’ #STANDFORSOMETHING tour will take place this weekend, when Young Guns enter the small confines of Bristol Louisiana.

It’s marks the long-awaited return of Young Guns to the stage. Needless to say, they’re excited.

“I think there’s an intimacy and a specialness about playing little sweaty shows that we’ve never grown out of loving,” frontman Gus Wood offers. “We’ve had a bit of fortune and worked hard, and it’s nice to get ourselves into larger venues at this point, but it’s still great to go back and play smaller shows.

“We haven’t had the chance to do that for a long time. It’s one of our only shows this year, which is gonna make it a lot of fun, and it’s in a part of the country that we’re close to. I’m really excited for it.”

That’s true, too. For the past twelve months, things have been a little quiet for the YG crew over on our shores. Having released their sophomore album ‘Bones’ back in 2012, they spent the majority of last year on the road, but this year, they’ve been making themselves at home in the US.

“We’ve been over in America, really, since September last year. We signed a record deal in the United States last year,” Wood explains, “just really as things were dying down at home. We were getting ready to start writing and recording our third album, so we were quite surprised when the first single we released over there ended up going to number one in the rock charts. So, really, we just ended up touring and touring, and touring, trying to establish ourselves, just a tiny bit, over there.

“It was a bit surreal. You know, to me, we’re just me and four friends that play in a band, so, it’s always a surprise when things like that happen to you. It’s also really strange being in such a big country so far away from home, and having other people know the songs and come to shows and sing the words back to you, going to radio stations, TV appearances. It’s been a lot of fun but now we’re in a place where we really need to get on and do the new record.”

Their appearance on the #STANDFORSOMETHING tour promises to be one of the only chances you’ll get to see the band this year, especially in a tiny venue, and it’s guaranteed to be a night to remember.

Young Guns will perform with Canterbury and Armchair Committee at Bristol’s Louisiana on 12th October. Win tickets to the sold out date.
