Features Glastonbury 2011: The Phoenix Foundation

Good vibes, an open mind, and my Thermarest”“

We catch up with The Phoenix Foundation ahead of their set at Glastonbury this weekend

Hello, who are you and what role do you play in the band?
Hi, my name is Tom Callwood. I play bass in The Phoenix Foundation and make tour movies.

Is this your first time playing at Glastonbury? If not, how many times have you performed there?
Yes, my first time, but I have performed there many times in my gig fantasy dream world.

Which is your favourite Glastonbury stage?
I have watched footage of bands on The Pyramid Stage, it looks amazing at night.

Who are you most looking forward to seeing there?
Fleet Foxes and Tame Impala.

Will you be making the most of your time there and sticking around or are you leaving straight after your set?
I want to be there as long as possible, but it may depend on the weather (and soft bandmates!)

What's in your essential festival survival kit?
Good vibes, an open mind, and my Thermarest (inflatable sleeping mat)

Do you prefer to hang around back stage or experience everything in the crowds?
A bit of both. I will have friends out front, but it will be great to escape backstage.

Describe your best festival memory?
The Flaming Lips at Forbidden Fruit Festival in Dublin earlier this month were cool.

If Glastonbury were an animal, what would it be?
A Unicorn because they are mystical and have silver blood.

Finally, what other festivals are you performing at this summer?
Forbidden Fruit, Lovebox, Larmer Tree, Boomtown (Belgium), De Affaire (Holland)

The Phoenix Foundation play Glastonbury's Oxylers In West stage at 12pm on Saturday 25th June 2011
