Neu Get To Know… Eden Rain
Following the release of her debut EP ‘GUTTER VISION’, we chat to Eden Rain about what’s next on the horizon.
Hello and welcome to DIY’s introducing feature, Get To Know… which aims to get you a little bit closer to the buzziest new acts that have been catching our eye as of late, and working out what makes them tick.
This week we’re joined by Eden Rain, a Leeds born and London based songwriter whose recent debut EP, ‘GUTTER VISION’, has already marked her out as one to watch. Only a couple of months on from the EP’s release, Eden has returned with new single ‘Terry and Julie’ - a romantic, alt-pop cut that gives listeners their first insight into her next project.
On ‘Terry and Julie’, Eden takes inspiration from The Kinks’ ‘Waterloo Sunset’, imagining the love lives and moral dilemmas of her two titular characters who met at Waterloo station every Friday night. To mark the release, we chat to Eden about her local scenes, The Muppets, and not taking things too seriously.
Describe your music to us in the form of a Tinder bio.
Anxious, needy, and looking for validation.
You're from Leeds and based in London. What do you think of both music scenes at the moment?
Agghhh big up Leeds! I love and am excited by anyone who does music in Leeds because growing up, I always thought you had to be based in London to do music which is totally not true. I think in both places there are loads of exciting things going on in new music venues and spaces popping up all the time. Every session I’m in in either city, I get loads of amazing new recommendations of local artists.
Who would be your dream collaborator?
Hmm, maybe Ethan Gruska / 070 shake / Kae Tempest, music wise? But if I could do a collab with any brand it would be either a crisp company or The Muppets :)
Musically or otherwise, what are you most looking forward to this year?
I'm looking forward to playing gigs in November - especially my show at The Lower Third and releasing more music. I’m also gonna get into some weird hobby like palm reading or paper making or that thing where people stand on horses and do gymnastics??
If people could take away one thing from your music, what would it be?
It’s just never that serious.
If you could revisit one decade/era/scene in music, where would you go?
I’d revisit the medieval lute music scene, bet they had a nice time.
In school, what would you have been voted 'Most Likely To...'?
Most likely to fall down a drain.
We're coming round for dinner - what are you cooking?
Robinson fruit juice vodka cocktail, and a lasagna made of crisps :)
'Terry And Julie' is out now.
