Interview Reverend and the Makers

You’d struggle to see Reverend And The Makers mentioned without something butting in with that other Sheffield band. And no, we don’t mean Milburn.

The self styled guru at the heart of everything happening in the city of steel, so it seems, The Reverend has worked with everyone. And we mean everyone. Interesting enough for a chat? We thought so.

How was your tour?
Yeah good. It’s nice to get out and take your music to people and look them in the whites of the eyes ya know? It was good to get the response we did, as only been going since January. I went to a lot of places we’d never been before which was nice. Met some nice randoms. It’s all about the characters you meet and the memories you forge.

Were there any tour shenanigans?
Kinda but I’m not into showing people my titties if ya know what I mean. I hate bands who brag about how many drugs they’ve necked or girls they’ve had or the like as if they did it for someone elses benefit. It’s livin’ the cliches of those who came before. We enjoyed ourselves though.

There have been rumours of a film collaboration with the Arctic Monkeys, can you tell us anything about it?
I helped answer some questions about where they came from. That’s about it. I’m into what Warp X films do so it was a pleasure to get involved with them. They are independent so theres no corporate suit telling them how to play it. I’m a big fan.

Do you have any releases in the pipeline?
Yeah maybe a single later in the year. Thing is I dont wanna do it cos its expected or cos I’m told I should. I wanna make a record that’ll blow peoples head off, not one they’ll hear and think, oh yeah that’s good. That’s like grey. Not black or white. Just kinda average. Fuck averageness. It’s a compromise.. No point doing it if that’s ya aim.

You seem to make good use of the internet in spreading your music, are you a fan of the whole online ‘thing’?
Yeah the internet is ace. It takes the distance away and stops marketing people force feeding ya what to listen to. When the forums are there its people exchanging their views on an equal footing. And if you can download the stuff then you have the choice ya know? We have people in Brazil into it. That wouldn’t ever have been possible before. I think it’s a bit like all the old punl fanzines people tell me about. A big fuck you to the man. Puts the power in the hands of the fans.
