Interview Semifinalists

In the midst of their current UK tour, DIY caught up with the band for a very (and we mean very) quick chat.

With a sound described most often as ‘post-pop’, Semifinalists are about to release third single proper, ‘DC’, taken from their self-titled debut album. In the midst of their current UK tour, DIY caught up with the band for a very (and we mean very) quick chat.

How did you guys meet? How did the band form?
We were all students at film school who were in the habit of forming new bands which would last for the sake of a few shows then break up. Then we formed this one.

You’re all very artistic, how do you try to work that into the band?
We try to personally fulfill all the creative aspects that a band demands (ie. Record production, record cover design, music videos, merch)

How was your tour with Tilly And The Wall?
Really amazing. Audiences were enthusiastic and Tilly are the most awesomest people you can imagine.

Your last single ‘You Said’ got a very good reception from both fans and critics alike, were you pleased with the response?
We didn’t even realize. Did it? That’s good. Right?

Some of the band is also in ‘Naked Babes’, how did that come about?
That came about in the same way all our projects come about. We thought it would be fun to make a metal band, so we called up some friends…

Are you doing any festivals this year?
So far we’re booked for Leeds, Reading, TDK, and Electric Picnic.

Semifinalists release ‘DC’ through Regal Bear on 19th June 2006, and appear on the following tour dates:

JUNE
1 Liverpool Metropolitan University
2 Cambridge Portland Arms
3 Nottingham Social
4 Leicester Charlotte
6 Brighton Pressure Point
7 Bath Moles
8 London Bardens Boudoir
