Duo We Fell To Earth this week released their new single ‘Deaf’, which, whilst one of the first tracks Wendy Rae Fowler and Richard File worked on together, wasn’t on their debut album released a little earlier in the year.
We catch up with them to (try to) find out how they are, where they get their ideas, and what their plans are for next year.
Hello We Fell To Earth, how are you?
So, you’ve just finished a tour with The Big Pink, a duo, and now you’re off to Europe to support Air, another duo, and you’re a duo yourselves, when not playing live. Is two the magic number when it comes to electronic(ish) music?
It certainly looks that way doesn’t it?
Both of you guys have been involved with numerous other musical projects, but do you think you’ll stick with this one? Will We Fell To Earth will be around for a while?
Even as part of We Fell To Earth you’ve worked with some amazingly talented people - is it an inspirational environment to be in? Do you draw many ideas from others?
As a musician or any kind of artist you’d be insane not to draw inspiration from genius past.
Your self-titled debut album was released earlier in the year. How do you feel about the LP a few months on from its release? Still happy playing it?
Totally, and playing the album live is taking it to a whole new place. It’s giving us so many ideas for the next record.
You played your first proper gig together in April of this year, but you must have had the album finished by then - was it nerve wracking knowing it’d be difficult to drop songs that may not have had a good reaction? Is that something you’ll mirror with future albums?
It’s hard to say. It really depends on how we go about making the next record.
It seems quite soon to be releasing a brand new single, not featured on the record?
We spent a week in the studio a couple of months back and recorded one of the first songs we ever wrote together which was ‘Deaf’. We didn’t wanna just sit on it so we put it out. Barry Gene Murphy’s video does it proud.
And finally: what will 2010 hold for We Fell To Earth?
To play at as many venues as humanly possible before disappearing into the studio to make some new music to play at as many venues as humanly possible…
