Animal Collective and The Libertines both joined John Cale on-stage over the weekend for a special full run-through of his band’s classic debut album ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico,’ along with tracks from second album ‘White Light / White Heat’.
The night took place at Philharmonie de Paris; where a Velvet Underground exhibition is also being held. Mark Lanegan, Etienne Daho, Lou Doillon, and Lemon Jelly’s Nick Franglen also hopped on stage with John Cale at various points during the tribute-paying gig.
It’s not John Cale’s first encounter with Animal Collective; the Welshman wrote a drone piece for their ‘Painting With’ track ‘Hocus Pocus’.

Animal Collective - Time Skiffs
For some, this might be too tame. An album full of ‘Bluish’ rather than ‘Fireworks’. But for others, that means it’s the most accessible.
Their new album, ‘Time Skiffs’, lands this week.
