Make some room for Bonobo and Nick Murphy’s ‘No Reason’ video

If you get a bit claustrophobic, look away now.

Bonobo and Nick Murphy (fka Chet Faker) recently teamed up for ‘No Reason’, (other than to make a killer disco-inspired tune) and the track now has an intriguing new video.

If you suffer from claustrophobia, this clip might be your worst nightmare. The camera passes through a series of interconnected rooms inhabited by people, with the rooms themselves becoming smaller and smaller through time. But is the room shrinking or is the man growing?

In a statement, director Oscar Hudson shed a bit of light on the concept behind the video. Turns out, the clip is meant to represent the crushing nature of space on a person’s mind. “I learnt about the Japanese phenomenon of the Hikikomori- young Japanese people who become so overwhelmed by the pressures of life that they retreat to their bedrooms for years at a time,” he said. “I set out to make a film that through an inventive physical concept tried to link environment directly to psychology.” Deep stuff.
