News Listen: Friends Unveil New Track ‘The Way’
Samantha Urbani and an unidentified co. return with a Prince-indebted new single.
Brooklyn's Friends have returned with their first track since 2012's debut 'Manifest!'. Headed by Samantha Urbani, the line-up's since changed. One member's gone off to work in noir-rock group Lodro, and the artwork for new single 'The Way' solely shows Urbani in hazy glow next to a fierce looking guitar.
The song itself - out now as a single on Lucky Number - is a sleeked-out, smooth-as-hell ballad, comprised of tapping electronic percussion and some showy slap bass. Urbani's vocals are a glorious constant, rinsed by a Prince-style guitar solo. Dev Hynes is also involved.
