Glastonbury 2017 Lorde shines in sunset Glastonbury 2017 slot

The singer brings ‘Melodrama’ to Worthy Farm on the festival’s Friday night.

It’s only been a week since Lorde released her second album ‘Melodrama’, but when the soon-to-be-superstar opens her set on the Other Stage with one of its highlights, ‘Homemade Dynamite’, it’s clearly already worked its way into the hearts and feet of many.

Lorde is completely commanding tonight - she perches on the edge of the stage and demands a sea of phone lights to be raised for a gorgeous ‘Liability’, and prowls the front rows, entering a staring contest with the tv cameras.

Tracks from debut LP ‘Pure Heroine’ are still fresh and fantastic - ‘Ribs’ and ‘Team’ see the set’s most intense moments - but it’s ‘Melodrama’ cuts that really point the way forward. ‘Perfect Places’ is anthemic and gripping, while album highlight ‘Supercut’ really should be the record’s next single, and is received tonight as such.

‘Green Light’ is the euphoric end to the set that it was always destined to be, and when Lorde reveals how she was told by so many how special Glastonbury was, the crowd are in the knowledge that they’re seeing something very special too.
