RA embrace the dark on new ‘Then I Woke Up In Paradise’ EP
Swedish punks’ gloomy new effort is streaming on DIY as today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from RA.
Gothic punks RA aren’t afraid to mix up their garb. Arriving shortly after their serrated debut ‘Scandinavia’, new EP ‘Then I Woke Up In Paradise’ finds them swapping grumbling post-punk for a new, electronic direction. It’s no less blackened, mind.
From the dystopian title-track and lead single, to the swarming, all-encompassing darkness of closer ‘Orchid’ - which nevertheless shares the beauty of its namesake - it’s proof that these Malmö broody bunch can seek out the gloomy corners in any destination.
”We left our rough punk sound and tried to explore another feeling, a more romantic feeling. We gave ourself time to think and reflect and worked more with the song structures,” explains drummer and vocalist Simon Minó, and that dedication to emotional exploration is evident in every swirling, consuming note of ‘Then I Woke Up In Paradise’.
Stream RA’s new EP below - it’s released this Friday 2nd December via Adrian Recordings / Progress Productions / Premium Abundance / Third Coming Records.
