Drenge kick off Glastonbury 2015 with secret set

William’s Green welcomes in the Derbyshire group ahead of Wolf Alice’s show.

Glastonbury 2015 got off to an almighty bang thanks to Drenge last night (25th June), when the Derbyshire brothers played a (sort of) secret show on William’s Green.

Their set was announced for a swift five minutes earlier yesterday (before being promptly deleted from Twitter), but that didn’t prevent an unrelenting crowd from pouring out the tiny space. Some naysayers expected Paul McCartney to turn up. Others had heard of a Daft Punk secret set. Instead, Drenge came racing in meeting expectation headfirst, and their set proved to be a ferocious beginning to the weekend.

With barely a word spoken between songs, the now-trio sped through their ‘Undertow’ LP, opening with ‘Running Wild’ before upping the ante with ‘We Can Do What We Want’. Hours before, a sun-stricken Glastonbury is sorely in need of a wake up call - this is it. ‘The Snake’ is a saw-toothed shock to the system. Each time ‘Standing In The Cold’ gets an outing, it becomes a more emotional beast. I

t’s not Daft Punk doing backflips without any warning, but it’s the next best thing - few could provide a more intense opening to Glastonbury than Drenge.
